To help us resolve your issue quickly, please include:

  • macOS version
  • Inklet version
  • OpenAI model or speech preset being used
  • Whether the issue happens in all apps or only one app
  • Any error message shown in Inklet

Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to resolve them.

Accessibility permission

Inklet needs Accessibility permission to return focus to the previous app and insert text. Go to System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility and ensure Inklet is enabled. If Inklet appears but is not working, try removing and re-adding it.

Selection reading and Force Selection

Selection Actions rely on Accessibility to read the current selection. If selected text is not detected, confirm Accessibility permission is granted and try the configured Force Selection fallback. Simulated Command+C is disabled by default and can be enabled if an app does not expose its selection any other way. Some apps may restrict selection reading or programmatic insertion, and browsers and native apps use the same generic selection path without browser Automation.

Microphone, voice shortcuts, and recording modes

Microphone access is needed for voice dictation. Go to System Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone and enable Inklet. If dictation does not start, check the selected microphone, confirm your voice shortcut (Right Option press-and-hold by default), and verify the recording mode—press-and-hold, tap-to-toggle, or double-tap—matches how you expect to trigger recording.

OpenAI API key or model errors

If you see authentication or API errors, verify your OpenAI API key is correct and has sufficient credits or quota. Check that the selected model or speech preset is valid for your account. The key is stored in the macOS Keychain.

Text insertion or clipboard issues

If text is not being inserted correctly, ensure Accessibility permission is granted. Some apps may restrict programmatic text insertion. Try a different app to see if the issue is app-specific. Inklet temporarily uses the clipboard for insertion and restores previous clipboard content only when doing so will not overwrite newer content.

Important

Never send private API keys in support emails. If you need to share configuration details, describe your setup without including the actual key values.
