Overview

Inklet is a macOS writing assistant. It transforms typed, pasted, or spoken text using your own OpenAI API key, then inserts the result back into the app you were using.

Inklet does not require an Inklet account and does not operate a server that stores your text, audio, API keys, or settings.

What Is Sent to OpenAI

Inklet uses your OpenAI API key to power its features. Data is sent to OpenAI only when you run a workflow:

  • Text you write, rewrite, or summarize is sent to OpenAI when you run a writing workflow.
  • Selected text is sent to OpenAI when you translate it.
  • Temporary voice audio is sent to OpenAI when you start voice dictation, for transcription.
  • Pronunciation text is sent to OpenAI when you ask to hear it spoken aloud.

OpenAI processes submitted data under its own privacy policy, account terms, and data-retention practices.

Local Storage

  • Your OpenAI API key is stored in the macOS Keychain.
  • App settings, History, and the translation cache are stored locally on your Mac.
  • Successful Write, Voice, and Selection results remain in local History until you clear them.
  • Successful translations are cached locally for seven days using hashed cache keys.

Permissions

  • Accessibility: reads the current selection when available, performs configured selection fallbacks, returns focus to the previous app, and inserts confirmed results.
  • Microphone: used only while recording voice dictation that you start.
  • Clipboard: used temporarily for insertion and configured Force Selection fallbacks. Inklet restores previous clipboard content only when doing so will not overwrite newer content.

Simulated Command+C is disabled by default. Inklet does not request browser Automation.

Model Catalog

Inklet may fetch the public model catalog from models.dev at most once per day. This request does not send your text, audio, API keys, or settings.

Analytics and Tracking

The Inklet app contains no third-party advertising or analytics.

This website uses Vercel Analytics in production to understand aggregate site usage.

Data Retention

Inklet does not operate a server that stores your text, audio, API keys, or settings. Data you submit to OpenAI is processed and retained under OpenAI's own policies and account terms.
